the game maybe 'graphically challenged' by today's standards but that is like saying an old man is weak, no, he is an old man, he was probably stronger than you in his youth and is stronger than you will be as an old man, now for the game subject. The time of the game's release it was given a very positive review and the graphics at the time(1988) were pretty good(though Dungeon Master already had close to VGA style graphics) the puzzles and introduction to colorized monsters were more than welcome for 1988. I remember wanting to get this game when I read about it in Questbusters magazin(Shay Addams) it appears old, but it does have an element of challenge. you need an imagination to like it. it begins in a pub(like classic fantasy always did in those days) you must choose your compainions to venture into a dungeon and rid it of evil. the attributes are much as Bane and Savant, and deciding your class, choice of weapons/armor is paramont, as is your race and skill. once you understand the nature of this, it is quite fun. no need for graphics, it is about character dev more than what story there is(though here in HotM it is a good one, better than just the usual solve DM riddle routine in the first 3) referenced under appendix 'PC-88' meaning PC 1980's this is a MS-DOS only game, use Dos box!

Love/Hate this game. Great story, minimalist graphics, but a challenging difficulty required a slow pace at times and inventory space quickly becomes a premium. (O for the swag bag from Wiz 6!). One of my all-time favorites.

I remember playing Wizard V: Heart of the Maelstrom on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System when I was a young pup. I was new to RPGs, at the time, easily being enrage by the multiple deaths and character RE-creating when I was playing it. Ahh, those were the days..
